Zayn Malik says he was defending himself in Twitter spat with ex-One Direction bandmate Liam Tomlinson

Former One Direction bandmates Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson have retreated to their respective corners after trading blows in an ugly Twitter feud.

"Don't know why I'm being attacked for defending myself, people got it twisted! I love my fans?! Every single one of you x," Malik wrote in a post Thursday, hours after blasting his former bandmate for having no life.

Tomlinson, meanwhile, also sought to soothe fans anxiety over the feud, tweeting, "Our fans support really has been a different class! Huge love to you guys!!"

Tensions between the former pals boiled over on Wednesday after producer Naughty Boy once again sought to prod 1D's remaining members over Malik's decision to quit the band.

The producer — who released Malik's first post-1D single — tweeted a stylized photo of himself and the 22-year-old singer and captioned it, "Replace this."

Malik defended himself on Twitter Thursday after a social media spat with Tomlinson.

Tomlinson fired back, saying "Remember when you were 12 and you used to think those Mac filters for your pictures were cool haha ! Some people still do HA!"

Malik then struck back, tweeting, "Remember when you had a life and stopped making bitchy comments about mine?"

That comment prompted a back-and-forth between Tomlinson and Naughty Boy, with the producer taking a shot at the boy bander's singing voice and Tomlinson ridiculing the producer's resume.

Tomlinson, 23, and Naughty Boy, 30, have been at each other's throats for months.
